My Impressions of 「Moonlight」
Certainly, the picture is beautiful・・・
The film won the Academy Award for Best Picture , Best Supporting Actor for Ali ,Best Adapted Screenplay for Jenkins and McCraney.
Black community in America is the stage, element of homosexuality is also present, it is a work that became a topic somewhat, but I saw it unsatisfactory.
The picture was very beautiful, I felt as if the story progressed monotonously without much explanation as if I was watching a documentary.
Keep in mind whether it is good or bad that it looks like a documentary.
I know that it contains messages like homosexuality or a positive affirmative life, but I could not like the main character Sharon.
Sharon becomes a seller of a drug after becoming an adult.
Even though his mother was addicted to drugs, he knew it so much that he felt the fear of dragging.
It certainly must be a terrible environment, but even in such a terrible environment, there are many people who do not stray from the right path, so I wanted to see those who were rather like that.
I do not want to think that it was inevitable for people to touch their crime because the environment is so bad.
I can not accept the end atmosphere where the film does not deny the crime.
Sharon who met with Kevin can change his mind and live rightly?
If so, Sharon’s depiction of reflection on his way of living is too short.
It’s not enough to cry in front of his mother.
Sharon as drug dealer also becomes in good shape, even though the past may flash back, I can not see how he feels conflict in his job.
It seems unnatural that the his muscles become overly rich and become too different person.
Sharon had said that he became a seller because he was introduced to work when he was in prison, but I can not easily understand it, it is not realistic at all.
At the very least, I would like him to say that there was no way to live only that, but I can not imagine that there is really no way to live.
Although Sharon was certainly awkward, he accused Juan selling drugs while he was young, he risked his life to protect Kevin, he did it once, but he is a person who can endure for hard bullying.
Even such person will be a dealer because his daily life zone (mothers, uncle instead of fathers, in their own towns, prisons, etc.)is overflowing with drugs?
Does it seem real from the American society?
Rather, the dealer is not like a person who was bullying Sharon, but rather only gentle people like Juan, so Sharon allowed?
Absolutely no such thing, there must be a lot of people like those who were teasing Sharon in drug dealers.
I’m not quite sure, but if he became a dealer somehow, it is far from realism that he change his taste preferences to life.
I do not think he need to be wealthy either.
It is not realistic, rather than a lack of explanation.
But let’s assume that the explanation is insufficient.
If this is one of the reason for taking the Academy Awards, if it depicts the darkness of a real American society, Could Americans complement this lack of explanation?
To that much I think that drugs are familiar in the USA and they do not think that it is too bad to become a dealer.
From a Japanese point of view, drug dealers are nothing but criminals, but from Americans do not think that it is so bad, Does that mean Sharon’s way of living can be roughly agreed to be ok, then?
Sharon’s life was ruined by drug, but was saved by drug.
Is a beautiful figure that Sharon who is a victim who has been tattered in such a harsh environment regains his identity?
No, no, I don’t think so.
Then, when he meet Kevin and forgive kevin’s heart, I want its depiction to approve all Sharon’s weaknesses and break down.
The fact that himself has become a dealer despite that he and his family have suffered from drugs, did not keep up with Juan’s teachings, his weakness of mind that remodels his body to show his strength・・・.
I want him to say such everything.
Kevin must get more angry.
They don’t just want to show that the criminal has got a lover.
I do not think it is necessary to make him a dealer if it is to be such a pale atmosphere.
But with that, the allegorical ironic element of making a living with drugs that made his life go wrong will disappear.
So it is probably that they chose this.
Although it is allegorical to be a dealer, there is no compelling powerful depiction enough to make it all understand.
However, if it say whether it is a realistic documentary or not, allegorical elements disturb realism.
It is not a pleasant fable, it is not a realistic documentary, it is not even a fusion of it.
It is boring fable of documentary style, isn’t it?
